| Unintentional Secret. Crossing the Roman Bridge in Tavira from the Placa Da Rebublica and through a narrow, easily missed archway on the left, brings you via a tree lined, cobbled embankment to the unsigned Beira Rio Restaurante and Bar (look on the right for the anchor outside the door). Currently you'll find there a blaze of warmth and humour from Marika Raake's solo and farewell exhibition, a show that establishes her as a prolific and important painter in both Tavira and beyond. Add to this a perfect harmony of paintings and setting, in yellows, orange and reds, garnished with azure for a visual feast here not to be missed. |

| AlHakawati Stars shining on Tavira a late Thursday night (Feb 7 2008) exposed an (almost) unannounced storyteller showering her gifts on a spellbound audience in REF bar on the West Bank of Gilão. For a stranger to the Portuguese language TIXA still got my attention thru the rhythm of her oral performance, her mimic and non-verbal communication, as an Arab Hakawati, the time-old bearer of stories given over from one generation to another. ola |
